LF-091
The LF-091 Chinese New Year Dragon Dance Lantern is the definitive centrepiece of lunar new year lantern celebrations: a giant dancing dragon suspended in a majestic S-curve above a procession of performer silhouettes. The dragon's body is built in twenty or more articulated segments, each a steel frame clad in red and gold silk-effect fabric with individually lit scale panels, so the whole animal glows with a rippling, serpentine energy. Its head is sculpted with fierce eyes, curling horns, a long beard and an open mouth holding a glowing pearl, while LED chasing light travels down the body as if the dragon is alive. Beneath it, dark performer silhouettes carry glowing poles, echoing a real dragon dance troupe in motion. The composition captures the excitement of the traditional dance in a single, monumental scene. Weatherproof to IP65 and rated for 50,000 hours, this display creates an instant festival atmosphere and is the strongest possible statement for chinese new year lights programmes anywhere in the world.

The dragon can be produced in lengths from 8 to 25 metres, and the number of body segments, the curve of the S-pose and the height of the head are all adjustable to fit the venue. Scale colours can be traditional red-and-gold, imperial yellow, or a multicolour scheme; the pearl, eyes and whiskers can be fitted with animated high-brightness LEDs. The performer silhouettes below can be replaced with static lantern figures, a drum-tower prop, or removed entirely for a clean sky display. LED programs include the classic chasing ripple down the body, a steady glow, or a synchronised sequence with drumbeat sound effects. Optional features include a mist base, a sponsor plaque on the plinth, and a rotating head unit that sweeps the dragon's gaze across the crowd. The dragon ships in segment modules that bolt together on site.
This dragon lantern anchors chinese new year lantern festivals, lunar new year fairs, shopping-mall atriums, city squares, cultural parades, zoo lights and international Chinese-culture events. It is the natural centrepiece for opening ceremonies and countdown events, and it works equally well indoors in atriums and outdoors in parks. Event organisers place it above stages, entrances or central plazas where its scale can be seen from every direction.
Our team ships and installs this piece worldwide, and every order includes engineering drawings, a certified installation plan and on-site technical supervision. As a custom lanterns specialist from Zigong — the home of Chinese lantern art — we have supplied giant lanterns for sale to theme parks, zoos, shopping malls, city squares and cultural festivals across more than 40 countries since 2002.
A display of this scale demands proper engineering. The dragon is supported by a series of vertical masts with spreader arms, each set on a reinforced concrete pad of about 1 m × 1 m, laid out to our certified plan; a 12-metre version typically uses four masts. Assembly takes three to five days with a crane and scaffold: the masts are erected and plumbed, the body segments are lifted and bolted together on the arms, and the head and tail are fitted last. All electrical connections are made through weatherproof plugs at each segment, and the whole display is fed from a central IP65 distribution box with individually fused loops for each segment, an earth-leakage breaker and a dusk sensor. Before opening night we run a 48-hour burn-in test of the chasing sequence. During the season, weekly checks cover the mast bolts, the segment fixings and the tension of the scale panels; fabric is cleaned with a soft brush. The head's animated eyes and pearl are the most delicate elements and are inspected after high-wind days. At season's end the dragon is de-rigged segment by segment, with the head and LED modules stored in protective crates for reuse in future chinese new year lights seasons.
The dragon dance lantern is the highest-impact single piece available for lunar new year programming: it instantly signals the festival, draws crowds from across the site and generates the most shared images of any installation. Its dramatic scale supports premium sponsorship positions on the plinth and stage areas, and it anchors opening ceremonies and media moments that raise the whole event's profile. Educationally, it tells the story of the dragon dance, its role in welcoming the new year, and the symbolism of the dragon in Chinese culture, giving schools and cultural programmes a spectacular teaching centrepiece. Although its initial cost is higher than smaller pieces, its modular, re-usable construction spreads the investment across many years of chinese new year lantern celebrations.
